The discipline “General surgery with anesthesiology and principles of nursing care” is delivered for students of 2nd and 3rd courses of medical and dental faculty and "First Medical Aid" for the 2nd year students of clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical faculty.

SCIENTIFIC WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT

The research topic of the department of general surgery is the "Diagnostic and tactical aspects of the surgical treatment of intra- and ekstraabdominal pathology of inflammatory and noninflammatory origin by studying its current etiological, pathological and clinical features"; deadline: 2010 -2014 years.

Responsible for the scientific work of the department - PhD, associate prof. Kunovskyy V.

Main research areas:

  • Emergency surgery of acute abdominal disease - acute complicated cholecystitis, purulent-inflammatory lesions of extrahepatic bile ducts, acute biliary pancreatitis, necrotizing pancreatitis, peritonitis, acute intestinal obstruction syndrome, enteral insufficiency.
  • Purulent surgical infection - an understanding of the structure and dynamics of the etiological factors of modern surgical infection, antibacterial and antibiotic therapy, purulent surgical infection caused by parenteral drug use, phlegmon of the neck and mediastinitis, sepsis, HIV infection in surgical patients, nosocomial infections, the development of new medicinal compositions and medicines in the treatment of purulent surgical infection.
  • Main results of the department - The original algorithms of diagnostic and treatment tactics for acute complicated cholecystitis, cholangitis, acute biliary pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, peritonitis, chronic inflammatory diseases.

MEDICAL AND ADVISORY WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT

Treatment and consultation work carried out at the clinics of general surgery (2nd surgical department of Municipal Emergency Clinical Hospital of Lviv City, 2nd Surgical Department), the surgical department of Lviv Railway Clinical Hospital and burn and plastic surgery unit of Municipal 8th Hospital of Lviv City.

On the clinical bases of general surgery department works scientific and practical center for treatment of patients with acute pancreatitis and sugical infection as well as regional center for burn and plastic surgery.

The department uses videolaparoscopic equipment for diagnosis and surgical treatment of acute diseases of the bile tract, pancreas and their complications. In the general surgery department are elaborated the methods of interventional ultrasonography, minimally-invasive endoscopic technologies as components of treatment programs for acute diseases of the abdominal cavity. Introduced in the practical work modern methods of reconstructive plastic surgery including microsurgical techniques.
