Educational work
  1. Department of clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapy and medical standardization, Faculty of pharmacy of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University of Ministry of Health of Ukraine was founded on February, 1, 2004.
  2. The Department is only one clinical unit of the pharmaceutical faculty which provides pre- and postgraduate training of specialists - clinical pharmacists and pharmacists and postgraduate grounding of physicians of all specializations during the courses of thematic improvement.
  3. According to Ministry of Health of Ukraine order №532 from 23.08.2011 Department of clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapy and medical standardization was conferred a status of the pivotal one in grounding of clinical pharmacists in such disciplines as “Basics of clinical medicine”, “Pharmacotherapy” and “Basics of medical standardization”, training pharmacists in the subject “Pharmacotherapy with the basics of pharmacokinetics”, internship of clinical pharmacists which gave a chance to aggravate the collaboration with medical (pharmaceutical) institutions which provide training of clinical pharmacists and pharmacists in Ukraine on pre- and postgraduate levels concerning the issues of optimization and unification.
  4. On the pre-diploma level the Department provides training in 17 fundamental vocational disciplines and practices in 7 subjects for students of specializations “Clinical pharmacy”, “Pharmacy” (stationary and distance learning form of education), “General medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Medical-prophylactic business”, and “Dentistry”. The tuition is provided in three languages: Ukrainian, Russian and English.
  5. The disciplines “Basics of medical standardization”; “Basics of health care organization and medical insurance”; “Basics of clinical medicine”; “Information technology in pharmacy” (was invented into the educational plan of clinical pharmacists’ training for the first time in Ukraine on Department's initiative); “Pharmacotherapy”, “Clinical pharmacology”; “Pharmacoeconomics”; “Pharmaceutical care”; “Clinical investigation of drugs”; elective courses “Drug use in clinical practice”, “Pharmaceutical aspects of alcoholism, drug and toxic substance abuse”, “Rational drug use” and “Fundamentals of age-specific pharmacotherapy” are provided at the Department for the specialization “Clinical pharmacy”.
  6. For specialization “Pharmacy” the Department provides tuition on following disciplines: “History of medicine and pharmacy”, “Pharmacotherapy with the basics of pharmacokinetics”, “Clinical pharmacy”, “Pharmacoeconomics”, “Information technology in pharmacy” (was invented into the educational plan of pharmacists’ training for the first time in Ukraine on Department's initiative); special subject: “Drug use in clinical practice”.
  7. During the educational period students pass a number of educational and practical trainings at basement clinics and pharmacies in following disciplines: “Clinical pharmacology”; “Pharmacoeconomics”; “Pharmaceutical care” (specialization “Clinical pharmacy”); “Clinical pharmacy” and practice in special subject “Drug use in clinical practice” (specialization “Pharmacy”).
  8. Since 2007 the Department provides postgraduate training of specialists. In particular, the Department is responsible for primary specialization (internship) and development of vocational competence of specialization “Clinical pharmacy”.
  9. Since 2007 the tuition of adjacent discipline “Clinical pharmacy” for internship-pharmacists, audience-pharmacists and internship-physicians in specialization “Pediatrics” and in 2011 – adjacent discipline “Basics of medical standardization” for internship-physicians of all specializations.
  10. Since 2009 the Department provides series of thematic improvement as follows: “Quality management in health care and medical standardization” (for physicians of all specializations); “Rational pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care in therapeutics” (for internists and family practitioners); “Rational pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care in pediatrics” (for pediatricians and family practitioners); “Rational pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care in surgery and oncology” (for surgeons and oncologists); “Rational pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care in obstetrics and gynecology” (for obstetrician-gynecologists); “Rational pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care in dentistry” (for dentist doctors) and “Rational pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care in pharmacies” (for pharmaceutical specializations).

For ensuring the high levels of future specialists training modern interactive methods of tuition of educational disciplines are applied at the Department: all the lectures are delivered by the means of multimedia format presentations, the on-line access to internet is implemented during studies, the current and final attainment control system is fully-automatic and is administered by virtue of open computer testing, specially equipped computer classroom operates at the Department. Students have an opportunity to use the library of periodicals, textbooks, manuals, tutorials and the online database. In addition, to acquire proficiency in the subject students and interns take part in clinical rounds, have a chance to communicate with physicians, patients and paramedical personnel.

SCIENTIFIC WORK OF THE DEPERTMENT

Field of research

The scientific work of the Department of clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapy and medical standardization is based on implementation of approved scientific-research topic “ System of improvement medical care quality for population of Ukraine with implementation clinical pharmacist professional activity ” (2015-2019).

The main directions in research include:

  • Searching for historical aspects of pharmacy and clinical pharmacy and pharmacology development; medical and pharmaceutical terminology; history of information about drugs;
  • Monitoring systems implementation of adverse drug reactions at inpatient hospitals with involvement of clinical pharmacist;
  • Elaboration of clinical pharmacists’ activities model in diversified healthcare institutions, on different levels and stages of medical (pharmaceutical) aid;
  • Development of rational pharmacotherapy concept model and ways of its realization at the present stage of Ukraine’s health care system reformation;
  • Elaboration of clinical pharmacists’ activities model in rational phytotherapy;
  • Development of rational pharmacotherapy ways and improvement of medication provision in case of metabolic syndrome;
  • Elaboration and implementation in clinical pharmacists’ activities at healthcare institutions the methodology of pharmacotherapy assessment per inpatient prescription records of prevailing and socially-significant diseases;
  • Searching for ways of medical (pharmaceutical) aid quality improvement realization with the help of clinical pharmacist and organizational-systematic and educational-didactic supply of clinical and pharmaceutical service in Ukraine;
  • Obstetric-gynecologic aid quality in Ukraine analysis concerning pharmacotherapy and clinical pharmacist’s activities model in this field;
  • Drug use safety and rationality in women of fertile age during pregnancy and lactation in particular;
  • Processing of standards quality assessment criteria of multi-view pharmaceutical care and improvement of its methodology at different stages of medical (pharmaceutical) aid;
  • Processing of pharmaceutical care model in rational nutrition and special pharmaceutical care of particular patient categories with specific diseases;
  • Rationalization of drug use in clinical practice on the basis of DDD, ABC, VEN analyses and pharmacoeconomic research;
  • Elaboration and implementation of insurance medicine principles in Ukraine and working-out the clinical pharmacist’s activity model as an insurance medical organization expert;
  • Scientific substantiation of possibility to implement the ISO International Standards into higher medical educational institutions departments’, pharmaceutical enterprises’ work and activity assessment with the help of clinical pharmacist.

Journal “Clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapy and medical standardization”

In 2008 the Department initiated publication of a scientific journal with the same title (it is included into the list of professional publications of Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine (HAC) and can publish the results of dissertations by specialty "Medical sciences" and "Pharmaceutical sciences" (Resolution of the Presidium of HAC of Ukraine from 14.04.2010 № 1-05/3 R., Report HAC № 5, 2010) “Clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapy and medical standardization” – a unique scientific periodical created to unite and harmonize the effort of specialists in different fields of medicine, clinicians, clinical pharmacists, pharmacists, public health officials and represent the research work in pharmacy and related medical disciplines. The journal is the first periodical in 155-year old history of Faculty of Pharmacy of Lviv national medical university.

The Department takes part in Cross-Border Cooperation Programme «Poland - Belarus - Ukraine 2007-2013». Project «Health first.
