EDUCATIONAL WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT

Following disciplines are taught at the Department:

  • « History of Ukraine and culture of Ukraine" for students of all faculties of 1 year,
  • «Ukrainian language (for professional purposes)" for students of all faculties of 1 year,
  • «Ukrainian (Russian) language as a foreign language" for foreign students 1-2 courses of medical, dental and pharmaceutical faculties, and English- speaking and preparatory departments. 

Elective courses:

  • «Ukrainian (Russian) language as a foreign language" for foreign students 1-4 courses. 

  Working curriculum from subjects:

  • History and Culture of Ukraine 1 course for students of all faculties,
  • Ukrainian language (for professional purposes) for students  of 1 course of all faculties,
  • Ukrainian as a foreign language to foreign students 1-2 courses of medical, dental and pharmaceutical faculties, English- speaking and preparatory  departments

Scientific work of department 

The department is working on developing the theory and history of Ukrainian culture, history of statehood of  Ukraine, problems of national identity and language policy in the Ukrainian society.

The main areas of research are:

  • topical issues of socio-cultural development of Ukraine in the twentieth century;
  • ethnopsychology of Ukrainian people;
  • National Ukrainian liberation movement in the XX century;
  • state processes in Ukraine beginning of XX century;
  • problems of language development in Ukraine of XX century;
  • culture of language and culture in the language as an indicator of social development. 

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES

The circle of scientific cooperation with scientists from the experts of Ukrainian covers countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Germany, England, Bulgaria. International activities staff - are: 1) participation of teachers in scientific seminars, conferences, forums; 2) work in archives and libraries abroad; 3) editions with foreign authors joint  scientific works; 4) lecturing in Europe; 5) internships  and professional development; 6) implementation of grants and participation in international programs.

Since 1992 till now Department of Ukrainian Studies cooperates with Ukrainian Free University (Munich, Germany). So, Doctor Of Sciences I. Hodak in this educational institution in 2006 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Science, and during 1991 - 2012 he taught courses "History of Ukraine" and "Historiography of History of Ukraine" for students of Ukrainian UVU, participated in the conferences: "Ukrainians in Germany, Germans in Ukraine "(2007)," Consolidation of Ukrainian political elites period 1945 - 1953 in Germany "(2008). He published a number of scientific works, including "Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the creation "(Munich, 2003).

Teacher O.Lyalka in 2013 won the grant for postgraduate study in «IDEALAB» (International Doctorate for Experimental Approaches to Language And Brain). Now she performs The International doctoral program with experimental approaches to language and brain under «ERASMUS MUNDUS». Thesis - "The mechanisms underlying the inhibition and facilitation in the generation of speech." Mrs. O.Lyalka participated in the international conference "European workshop cognitive neuropsychology" (Bresanone, Italy, 2015), which made a presentation on the topic: "The role of semantic relations and associative in the generation of speech", and in 2014 in Makvare University (Australia) won the contest presentations of young scientists.

I.Fulbrayta - participation in scientific conferences, exchange of information, presentations of scientific grants and scholarships for students of Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo  Haly?????

In 1998 Assoc. Bozhko N.M. received a grant of Polish Academy of Sciences. J. Manyavskoho to work on the theme "Ukrainian-Polish relations during the Ukrainian national revolution, the beginning of the twentieth century."

Associate Professor Yeshchenko T.A. became a member of International scientific conference: «Moderné vymoženosti vĕdy - 2015»: XI Mezinárodní vĕdecko-prakická conference (Praha, 27 ledna - 05 února 2015 roku); «Modern scientific potential - 2015»: the XI international scientific and practical conference (February 28 - March 7, 2015); «Naukowa myśl informacyjneś powieki - 2015»: XI Mięgzynarodowes naukowi-praktycznes konferencji (Przemyśl, 07 - 15 marca 2015 roku).

Department during 2013 - 2015 рр. was a co-organized International Conference "HHV- XXVII Reading in memory of the founder of the Lvov-Warsaw school of philosophy Kazimierz Twardowski."

PUBLISHING ACTIVITIES

Student   clubs

The department operates scientific student circle where under the direction of Associate Professor Bozhko N.M., Associate Professor Cherkes N.D. ,  Associate Professor Yeshchenko T.A., Ph.D. Melnik V.M., Candidate of Philology Sushkevych T.O., Senior Lecturer Hirna preparing scientific papers to attend the university,  and national conferences. Every year students of Lviv National Medical   participate in international competition of  the native word connoisseurs  named after Peter Yatsyk (sciences. Leaders - Associate Professor Cherkes N.D. ,  Associate Professor Yeshchenko T.A.,  Hyrivska G.P.,   Ishchuk N.V.).

Taking into account spiritual value orientation of disciplines (Ukrainian language, history and culture of Ukraine), the department always act artistic and creative student groups, namely: from 1996 to 2006 - a drama group; 1997 - literary and artistic club "Pervotsvit" (Head - Associate Professor Cherkes N.D.), where students experiencing their forces at poetry and literary-dramatic field. Club members present their work in front of Medical University professors, the audience of different medical institutions of Lviv, army officials of Western military garrison, radio listeners and the public of the city.
