EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL COURSES OF THE DEPARTMENT

SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS
Theme of department scientific directions: Optimization, prognosis and treatment patients with locally advanced and metastatic cancer of gastrointestinal tract and reproductive system. This is specified in the following scientific directions:

  • development of organ preservation operation in breast cancer and postoperative TRAM flap reconstruction;
  • problem of combined, extended and superradical surgery for cancer of the stomach and esophagus, lung, colon, rectum, liver, ovary;
  • prognostic criteria for cardioesophageal cancer;
  • development of surgical and conservative methods of treatment for metastatic liver cancer;
  • intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy of peritoneal carcinomatosis at gastrointestinal cancer and ovarian cancer;
  • paraaortic lymphadenectomy with retroperitoneal lymph node metastases at sanitized cervical cancer;
  • cytoreductive surgery at colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, cancer of stomach and kidneys;
  • surgical treatment of metastases in the lungs.

Over the past 10 years at the department were defended 2 doctoral and 7 PhD dissertations; is performing 1 doctor and 3 PhD dissertations.

CLINICAL WORK
Methods of combined, extended and super radical surgery for cancer of the stomach and esophagus, colorectal cancer, pancreatic tumors, primary and metastatic liver cancer, ovarian cancer are worked out at the department. Modern methods of reconstructive plastic surgery for breast cancer are introduced. Department staff is involved in clinical rounds, consultations, consiliums. Department is the basic FPGE’s department for teaching subject “oncology” for 

  • undergraduate
  • students and listeners. 

Scientific and practical conferences with international participation for the memory of Professor A.I.Hnatyshak dealing with the problems of theoretical and clinical oncology are carried out at the department every 2 years:

  • III conference (20-21.02.2009): Current treatment options for locally advanced and metastatic cancer;
  • IV conference (25.02.2011): Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic chemoperfusion in the treatment of disseminated forms of intraabdominal cancer.
